Here’s how to CRUSH your interview

Know the Show

Why we do this show:

Prepare Yourself

First, relax. We can edit anything, so just enjoy the conversation. We want to shine a light on your unique experiences and expertise to help others learn from you. Our general structure for the interview is:

  • The big issue or problem: What is the big issue or the specific problem you are addressing? What do you know about the problem that may not be widely understood?

  • Your unique insight or approach: How are you and your organization addressing this issue? How is your approach unique to the problem?

  • Your story: How did you end up here? Why does it matter to you personally?

  • Your wins and challenges: What big wins have you already achieved? What are the current obstacles? We want to know about both the individual and organizational aspects.

  • Big asks:  We won’t scale solutions to global challenges alone. To end the interview, we give you the opportunity to speak directly to the listeners:

    1. What is one resource or form of support that would help move the mission forward?

    2. What is one thing you want people to know or do on their own that would make a difference?

Prepare Your Space

The Turning Point is an audio and video production. The best episodes offer a dynamic conversation in an engaging virtual environment. To help us produce the best episode possible for you, please:

  • Prepare to be on camera. Be mindful of your visual background. If you have a quality webcam, please use it. However, most newer desktop or laptop cameras are fine. The quality of the conversation is more important than perfect video quality!

  • Record in a quiet, private space. Please do your best to manage the sound environment. Please do not record in a public space. Limiting distractions during the interview helps listeners get the best experience, it also helps you get the best promotional materials.

  • Use a professional microphone. For the best audio, we recommend a simple USB microphone (like this) that plugs into your computer. A bluetooth microphone (i.e. AirPods, lapel mic, or headphones with integrated mic) work as well. Your computer’s built in microphone would be the last resort. Headphones can also be helpful to manage feedback and sound reception, but are not necessary.

  • Record using a desktop or laptop. Please do not record on your mobile device. This will result in buffering issues. Additionally, both audio and visual will be downgraded resulting in sub-optimal content quality.
